Made for The Sketchbook Project 2015, Topographies is a conceptual collection exploring the complexities of location and longing. Each year of my early adulthood was inexorably tied to a city and each city, in turn, to a person who proved pivotal to my growth. Over time, the feelings once associated with that person have intertwined with my feelings for a place and resulted in a deep homesickness for a point in time I can never recapture.
Each image was painted with coffee—a constant source of comfort and connection from city to city. The original book lives in the Brooklyn Art Library, but the digital version can be found catalogued here.
